What is Small Steps to Health & Wealth (SSHW)?

The Colorado Small Steps to Health and Wealth pilot project is focused on reaching rural areas of the state where there may be limited access to education programs to help Coloradans make changes to improve their health and their wealth.

Our program explores the impact of health on finances and finances on health. It encourages participants to set a health goal and/or a wealth goal and take action to achieve goals by identifying small progress steps. It includes 13 behavior change strategies that can be applied to either area of life.

Face-to-face workshops will be conducted across the state. In addition, Coloradans are encouraged to access online information and resources as well as participate on Facebook and Twitter, and share their successes with others. Interaction is encouraged through participation in online Small Steps to Health and Wealth challenges.

A follow-up survey at the end of the pilot will determine participant evaluation of the program, document successes, and direct future program enhancements.

Funding Statement:

The project was supported by the Rural Health and Safety Education Competitive Program of the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) grant number 2011-46100-31139.
