Food Safety Research Information Office (FSRIO)
FSRIO has created a new information-based Web site on food safety research programs. July 2001, USDA launched a new Web site aimed at providing a database of food safety research projects to the research community and the general public. The site provides detailed information on food safety research projects, spending, and accomplishments by US Federal agencies, along with links to other important food safety research information.
The searchable database provides information on nearly 500 food safety research projects dating from 1998 to the present including research done or funded by: USDA Agricultural Research Service; USDA Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service; the Food Safety Consortium (researchers from the University of Arkansas, Iowa State University, and Kansas State University); and the US Department of Health and Human Services' Food and Drug Administration. Check it out at: www.nal.usda.gov/fsrio
To Your Health! Food Safety for Seniors
FDA and the Food Safety and Inspection Service of USDA have put together a nice booklet to educate seniors about food safety. The booklet covers the 4 simple Fight BAC! Messages and includes some additional information on how long to store foods in the refrigerator and freezer as well as some great food safety tips related to eating out and then bringing leftovers home. If you would like one free copy, call Melissa at (970) 491-7334. We have 20 copies available. For additional information on seniors and food safety, check out the Senior Food Safety web page developed by FDA and AARP at:

Food Safety for Babysitters
The Nebraska Extension has developed a food safety fact sheet for babysitters. This guide addresses food safety issues for infants and young children and provides tips on how to keep babies and young children from becoming ill from eating or drinking unsafe food. Topics covered include: storage of leftover milk or formula in bottles, how to heat baby food and general care of leftovers. You can obtain a free copy of this fact sheet at the following website:

This is an alliance of government, industry, consumer and academic institutions dedicated to improving food safety training and education at the retail level. The Alliance coordinates efforts of its members to remove barriers to communication by facilitating information exchange, strengthening communications networks and alliances, and coordinating collaborative projects. The "Taking Care of Business" brochure is a guide to food safety information and training materials available to retail and foodservice establishments. A copy of the brochure can be downloaded at the following web site:
