ThermyTM   is the messenger of a national education campaign. It is designed to encourage consumers to use a food thermometer when cooking meat, poultry, and egg products. The campaign is an initiative of the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Look for ThermyTM   in supermarkets as the thermometer industry is working with grocery chains and FSIS to promote Thermy™ and food safety. For more information about "ThermyTM"   and the food thermometer campaign, call the nationwide, toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-800-535-4555. ThermyTM   kit materials are available from the FSIS web site: www.fsis.usda.gov.thermy.
If you haven't visited the Fight BACTM   web site recently, you may want to take a look. Some summer additions include a feature article "Foodborne Illness Peaks in Summer - Why?" and the fact sheet "Seven Super Steps for Safe Food in the Summertime." Several other articles and flyers related to food safety and summer activities are available at the web site. Check them out at: www.fightbac.org/tools/summer_tools.
Several web sites now have information available on biotechnology. Many of the sites offer materials which are appropriate for both the consumer and educator. If you need some general or technical materials check the following sites:
