This year's Rocky Mountain Food Safety Conference will be held in partnership with the National Environmental Health Association's annual Food Safety and Protection Conference. The keynote speakers this year will be Dr. Michael Fox, an internationally known bioethicist, and Dr. David Satcher, the U.S. Surgeon General. Dr. Fox will speak on biotechnology and genetic engineering, including genetically modified foods. Dr. Satcher's presentation will provide attendees with the federal government's perspective on the issue of genetically modified organisms. Also, Nelson Cox and Lawrence Pong, two favorite speakers from past Rocky Mountain Food Safety Conferences will be presenters. The conference will take place from June 15-19, 2000, at the Adams Mark Hotel in Denver, Colorado. Note that the Rocky Mountain Food Safety Conference Committee played an integral role in planning the program scheduled on June 15 and 16.

The Lillian Fountain Smith Conference for Nutrition Educators will be held on June 8 and 9, 2000, at the University Holiday Inn in Fort Collins. The conference, endowed by the Smith family, is an outreach effort of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Colorado State University. This year's conference will include the latest on alternative approaches to diet therapy, including herbal remedies, the growing trend of obesity and type 2 diabetes in adolescents, and controversies regarding dietary management of heart disease.
