The Rocky Mountain Food Safety Conference will take place May 19-20, 1998, at the Colorado School of Mines, in Golden, Colorado. Public health officials, health professionals, food service managers, food processors, educators students and others are encouraged to attend. CEU's are available. Colorado State University, Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, will offer the 20th Annual Lillian Fountain Smith Conference on June 11-12, 1998, at the University Park Holiday Inn, Fort Collins, Colorado. The program for Nutrition Educators is designed to provide participants with the most current, objective, and authoritative information available in human nutrition and related health. The first session (morning of June 11) will include an update on E. coli 0157:H7 and Colorado's Foodborne Illness Tracking System. Michael Doyle, Director of the Center for Food Safety and Quality Enhancement, University of Georgia, and Pam Schillam, from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, will be the presenters for this food safety session. This training is sponsored by CSU Extension, Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, and the El Paso County Health Department, Community Hospitality Industry (HCH). Extension agents, Health department officials, and other professionals interested in becoming certified by the National Restaurant Association as ServSafe trainers are encouraged to register. The first training held February 10, 1998, in Fort Collins hosted 65 participants. The audience consisted of county Extension agents, local Health Department Environmental specialists, and other industry professionals. Participants took the National Restaurant Association ServSafe exam. All of the participants passed the exam with a 75% or higher, and 80% received a score of 90% or higher. Those who received at least 90% on their exam will now be able to register as ServSafe instructors. Plans are underway to sponsor a third training this spring in Durango, Colorado.
