Question: I don't own a computer. How can I find out about the web sites that you so often suggest?
Answer: Luckily, there are a number of places in Fort
Collins that offer computer time to the public. Here are the
locations that I know about.
The main branch of the Fort Collins Public Library at
201 Peterson St. has computers you can use for Internet
exploration (but not for word processing). The computers are
available without charge Monday through Thursday from 9:30
a.m. to 9 p.m., 10:00 am to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 10:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on
Sunday. If you want to print, the charge is $.10 per page.
If you go when it's not busy, the librarians will help as
time allows.
You can use computers at the Harmony library at Front
Range Community College. They have the same hours as the
main library, except they open at 10:00 a.m. on weekdays.
For information about basic computer classes at their
Electronic Learning Center, call 204-8206.
The Senior Center at 1200 Raintree Dr. has computers
for word processing and Internet use for adults 18 years and
older. Their hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through
Friday and 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. They do not
have on-site instruction but offer computer classes. Check
their "Recreation and Pathways" catalogue for schedules. The
Center has four computers that are often busy, so be
prepared to wait for a turn.
Poudre Hospital Health Aware Library, 2925 S. College
Ave., offers Internet access for health-related topics. They
will provide instruction. If you want to printed pages, they
cost $.05 each. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday
through Friday and by appointment on Saturday. In addition
to Internet access, they offer books, videos and audiotapes
for checkout.
Kinkos at 2834 S. College Ave., 1113 W. Elizabeth St.
and 130 W. Olive St., offer 24-hour Internet access and word
processing at $12.00 per hour. Someone is available to
answer questions from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Black and white
copies cost $.50 each and color copies are $1.50.
Put this column on your refrigerator so you'll have it
when you're ready to "surf the net."
