  • If the needles are falling off your pine tree, it’s not sick. Older needles are shed each year; those lost are located closest to the trunk.

  • If you have powdery-orange dust on snapdragons, you’re likely seeing rust, a common end-of season problem. Because the season is nearly over, dispose of the snapdragons and do not compost. Snapdragons often reseed in the garden, so you can look for new plants next year.

  • It’s a good idea to fertilize your lawn in fall. Aerate the lawn if you did not do it in spring to allow air, nutrients and moisture to get to plant roots over the winter. Your final fertilizer application can be late October/early November. If you haven’t already, remember to blow out your sprinkler system!
