(Durango, Colo.) More than 2,700 tickets were sold this summer raised over $55,000 to support educational activities and events for Colorado 4-H members and volunteers. Barbara Barnes of Durango Colorado was the lucky winner of the 2008 Ford F150 pickup truck offered through the Colorado 4-H Foundation raffle.

The truck was presented to Barbara and her husband Johnny by Gary Small, Colorado 4-H Foundation Director and Bob Salzer, LaPlata County Extension Director on October 16th. Barbara has been a 4-H leader in for 22 years. As a leader she has coordinated the family and consumer science project area at county fair, planned and chaperoned county exchange trips, taught crocheting classes at day camps and many other things. Salzer says, “Barbara would give her right arm or leg to help a 4-H member succeed.”

The winning raffle ticket was drawn at the 4-H MASH Gala (Metro Area Supports 4-H) held recently at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver. Rocky Mountain Ford stores donated the truck to the Colorado 4-H Foundation in March and the Ford dealer’s regional marketing manager Mike Grammes drew the winning ticket.

The MASH Gala was held to kick off the expansion of the 4-H program in Denver County. The goal is to have 1,000 new 4-H members in Denver County within the next three years.

The Colorado 4-H Foundation secures private funding to support the Colorado State University Extension’s 4-H Youth Development program. For more information about the 4-H program and foundation visit www.colorado4h.org.
