Gardening Information for Colorado
If you’re looking around the garden and thinking that planting season is over, think again—you still have time with the warm weather in August and early September to extend your garden into Fall. However, knowing what plants to choose and how to care for them can be a challenge. Imagine if you could have that information with you while visiting the nursery or working in the garden.
Through a partnership of Colorado State University Extension, the Denver Botanic Gardens and Green Industries of Colorado (GreenCO), PlantTalk Colorado™ provides gardening information on over 400 topics as weekly podcasts, which can be downloaded as mp3 audio files to your media player. Written scripts are also available in English and Spanish.
August and early September is a great time to plant perennials, shrubs, and trees. Gardeners can download podcasts and listen for tips on fall blooming perennials. Gardeners also have access to podcasts on choosing and caring for shrub and tree transplants.
With hot temperatures in August, you may notice it’s time for fall cleanup as colorful blooms in the garden begin turning to brown. PlantTalk Colorado™ provides maintenance tips on pruning for a variety of annuals and perennials.
Gardeners can take advantage of the warm weather in August to extend the vegetable garden into fall by planting cool season vegetables. PlantTalk Colorado™ has podcasts available on growing a variety of leafy and hardy cool season favorites.
For gardeners already thinking about repeating gardening success next year, PlantTalk Colorado also has a variety of information on garden planning, seed saving and storage. To access PlantTalk Colorado podcasts go to www.planttalk.org. Users can subscribe to a weekly RSS feed to have tips for greater gardening success sent directly to their email at: www.ext.colostate.edu/ptlk/rss/feed.xml, or to download as an mp3 file.
