The Colorado 4-H Program is hosting a Gala on October 3, 2009, at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Monies raised will support 4-H program expansion in the Denver metropolitan area through the by establishment of 50 new clubs by 2011 as well as provide funding to maintain the programs, enrolling 1,000 new 4-H members and securing funds for professional staff to support this effort. The expansion plans tie in with the national 4-H initiative on science, engineering and technology.

One highlight of the evening will be the raffle drawing for a 2009 Ford F-150 pickup truck. Tickets for the drawing are $5 each or five for $20 and can be purchased at the event or by contacting the Colorado State 4-H Office at (970) 491-1152.

4-H is the largest out-of-school youth development program in the country with more than seven million members and 500,000 teen and adult volunteers. 4-H strives to ‘empower young people to reach their full potential’ and develop important life skills. The program currently focuses on agricultural sciences, electricity, mechanics, natural sciences, biofuels, renewable energy, and computer sciences (www.ext.colostate.edu/4_h/stem.pdf).The Gala will help support the emerging 4-H projects of lightning photography, robotics, geospatial technology, wind power, and rocketry to name a few.
