CSU named Community Engagement University
FORT COLLINS - Colorado State University has earned the label of Carnegie Community Engagement University from The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
CSU was given the designation for its outreach and community partnerships and was one of 119 institutions throughout the nation in 2008 to receive it.
"Credit for this honor goes to our faculty and staff who have embraced the land-grant university mission of engaging campus and the surrounding community for the benefit of the state, nation and globe," said Tony Frank, CSU's interim president. "The value of community partners in creating an educated community is critical to our land-grant mission of improving lives through research."
Highlights of CSU's community outreach efforts in recent years include:
- Creation of the office of vice provost for Outreach and Strategic Partnerships
- A partnership with the Northern Colorado Economic Development Corp. to create and fund a regional economist position
- A partnership with the city of Fort Collins to form UniverCity Connections, which has included creation of the Fort Collins Zero Energy District, or FortZED
- Creation of a community relations coordinator position in CSU's Office of Public relations to provide better communication between the university and the city, chamber of commerce and Poudre school district
