Free Kill-a-Watt Meter Loan Program

Kilowatt Meter

Numerous Colorado State University Extension offices across the state are now offering Kill-a-WattTM electricity monitors through a free loan program. The devices measure appliance electricity use and offer opportunities for Colorado residents to save energy and money.

The meters are plugged in to an outlet and appliances are plugged into the meter. The meter then measures the appliance’s electricity use and can project energy cost and use data over an hour, day, week, month, or year. Once meter users learn about how much a second refrigerator or “phantom load” costs, for instance, they may decide to take action to improve their bottom line.
