Center for Agricultural Energy
Audits
One of the main activities of the Center for Agricultural Energy is conducting agricultural energy audits.
An agricultural energy audit is a systematic review of a producer’s energy use intended to uncover inefficiencies and cost-effective improvements. An audit can look at the energy use of buildings and other structures as well as field operations. Costs and savings associated with efficiency upgrades are then provided in a written report to the producer.

The CAE received funding from the Colorado Department of Agriculture to conduct eight comprehensive ag energy audits and funding from USDA to conduct another 50 audits focused on irrigation pumping efficiency. We have also applied for funding to develop a training program for Extension and NRCS staff to learn how to conduct basic audits of farms and ranches.
